On January 23, 2013, several Pasadena Bar Association members enjoyed a Brown Bag Lunch with the Honorable Darrell Mavis in the Judges’ Lounge of the Pasadena Courthouse.  The Brown Bag Lunches are not only a chance to interact with an esteemed member of our local bench, but also an excellent networking opportunity for newer and more seasoned attorneys alike.

Judge Mavis supervises the criminal cases in the Northeast District which includes the Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale and Alhambra Courthouses.  Judge Mavis updated the crowd regarding the impending budget cuts, courtroom closures and gave some practical suggestions for adapting to the changes.  We are pleased to note that none of the courthouses located in the Northeast District are on the court closures list at this time.  The Pasadena Courthouse will become a hub for unlawful detainer cases and the Alhambra Courthouse will become a hub for small claims cases.

Additionally, Judge Mavis graciously answered questions from attendees on a variety of subjects ranging from alternative sentencing/rehabilitation to security and parking at the Courthouse.  He stated that he welcomes feedback and enjoys hearing from our members on many issues.

The PBA wishes to thank Judge Mavis for his time and candor.

The next Brown Bag Lunch is scheduled as follows: Judge Jeffrey Winikow – Wednesday, February 13, 2013, Judges’ Lounge, 5th Floor of the Pasadena Courthouse.
